The things of 2011

This is probably going to be my final blog post of 2011 and yes, it will take the form of a year in review a la... every blogger ever.

I thought it might also be a great chance to catch up as I haven't posted nearly as much this year.

The things I did:

+ went back to uni - I started my first year of post-graduate study this year in the form of a Masters of Educational studies. I did four subjects over the year and have four to go next year.

The balance between work and study is a tough one, and is bound to be more tricky next year as I move into a boarding role at my school. But, as I tell everyone, I like to be busy. I work better that way. It has definitely been an excellent choice for me to study now; no boyfriend or kids are around and I am allowed to be selfish with my time. This does, unfortunately mean that I spend two out of four Sundays doing only uni work and that at times I have 30+ drafts to read and uni assignments to begin, but somehow, I've done it.

+ was a bridesmaid

My good friends Amy and Michael sealed their love in September and it was one of the 'funnest' days I've had. The day ran so smoothly and with five other girls to spend the day with, there were always helping hands and lots of fun around. Looking through all the wedding photos there are few where we're not smiling! It was just what everyone wants from a wedding.

+ bought a ticket overseas - in June 2012 I'm heading to England with my friend Amy for four weeks. We'll go to England, Ireland, France, Italy and Greece in what is likely to be somewhat of a jam-packed, whirlwind trip!

+ helped at numerous school events -

As usual, school was very busy. I generally try to get involved in what's happening as I think it is all the extra things that add to my love of this job. This year I helped P & F ladies with a Spanish themed ball, went on Year 12 retreat, attended mass and funerals, filmed various events, helped with leadership activities and facilitated parts of our graduation and attended formals and dances.

+ finally bought a Canon D60 -

So many of my Film and Tv kids have beautiful DSLRs and I finally bought. I want to have a fairly good idea of how to use it before the trip next year and have taken some good photos. I'm getting there very slowly.

The music I loved:

+ Beyonce:
On a whim, during one of my moves of the year, I bought Beyonce's 4. I listened to it non-stop throughout Term 4 at school. No one makes you feel like more of an Independent Woman than Beyonce can.

+ Busby Marou:
Strolling through JB Hi Fi for my parents' Christmas presents, I bought a few for myself. I quickly fell in love with Busby Marou's Biding My Time and over the past two weeks have listened to their album on repeat. It is an excellent car CD and has strong sing-a-long qualities.

+ Adele:
Sometimes I have little moments of being ahead of the crowd and I picked up Adele's 21 a few weeks before it started getting played continuously on Top 40 radio. There is nothing better to listen to if you feel like crying in your car..

The blogs I love:

Sometimes I can get overwhelmed by amount of blogs in my google reader. Especially if I leave it alone for a few days. Who knew there could be so many fashion blogs to scroll through. These are the ones I always make sure to check.

(obviously, all the images in this last section have been taken from the particular blog)

I quite like that New Years prompt people to reflect on what they've done and where they're at. To my surprise, I've actually fulfilled most of these goals I made last year. I saved for my trip, was really happy (more in the past few months than all year), considered my career goals and applied for and started studying! This year's goals will be a little of the same but mostly saving related and related to enjoying my time travelling.

Have a wonderful night tonight - whether you're home watching Sex & the City, out with friends watching fireworks or spent with your family.

& so I wish you all an amazing New Year's Eve.
see you in 2012.

Lately...

Reading: blogs with slow, slow internet; Sonya Hartnett's Of a Boy, Women's Health

Writing: Not enough; this as a reminder that I do still potter about Lola from time to time; rugby drill for next season.

Making: Pavlova with too much cream and not enough strawberries. It seemed to be a failed attempt but not much can be wrong with the cream and berries on top.

Drinking: A whole lot of Milo - a sudden craving.

Listening: I went on a CD spree at JB HI FI the other day and came home with Nicki Minaj, Busby Marou, Boy and Bear plus a CD for both mum and dad.

Playing: Drop 7 on my iPhone. Thanks for the new addiction, Durdlin. Oh and with my precious new Canon 60D

Enjoying: Holidays; sleeping in until 10; being home with my mum; odd family dinners (mum, me and my sister's boyfriend); this slow way of life.

Loving: Holidays; being home; not needing to rush.

Planning: to finish organising my Christmas presents; a date with my grandma tomorrow morning; Christmas day (mum's house, grandma's house, dad's house?) and New Years plans.

How are YOU? Link me to your blog - I love that I'm on holidays and have time to catch up on all my reading. Thanks to the lovely Sophie Isobel for this catch up idea.
